Liturgical Ministries
The celebration of the Holy Mass is at the heart of the life of St. Pio of Pietrelcina Parish. As we gather together to worship God, hear His Word, and receive Christ in the Eucharist, many parishioners generously offer their time and talents in service to the Sacred Liturgy.
Our Liturgical Ministries provide opportunities for members of our parish family to take an active role in the celebration of Mass. Through their service, our ministers help create a prayerful, reverent, and welcoming environment in which the entire parish community can participate fully in the liturgy.
Serving in a liturgical ministry is both an honor and a responsibility. Those who serve are called to approach their ministry with reverence, preparation, reliability, and a spirit of service, recognizing that their time and talents contribute to the worship of the entire parish.
Serving the Sacred Liturgy
There are several ways parishioners can serve during the celebration of Mass. Each ministry has a distinct role, but all share the same purpose: to serve Christ and His Church while helping our parish community worship together with reverence and dignity.
At St. Pio of Pietrelcina Parish, our Liturgical Ministries include Altar Servers, Lectors, and Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion.
Altar Servers
Altar Servers assist the priest and deacon during the celebration of Mass. Through their service at the altar, they help with various aspects of the liturgy and contribute to the reverent celebration of the Eucharist.
For children and young people especially, serving at the altar can be a meaningful way to participate more closely in Mass and grow in their understanding and appreciation of the Catholic faith.
Lectors
Lectors proclaim the Word of God during the Liturgy of the Word. Through the readings from Sacred Scripture, they help the faithful hear and reflect upon God’s Word.
The ministry calls for preparation and reverence, as lectors are entrusted with proclaiming Scripture clearly and prayerfully to the assembled community.
Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion
Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion assist the priest and deacon in the distribution of Holy Communion when their service is needed.
This ministry carries a particular responsibility and reverence for the Most Blessed Sacrament. Ministers may also assist in bringing Holy Communion to parishioners who are unable to attend Mass because of illness, age, or other circumstances.
Serving Throughout Our Parish
Liturgical ministry is part of the life of St. Pio of Pietrelcina Parish as a whole. Our ministers have opportunities to serve at St. Vincent de Paul Church, St. Bernadette Church, and Our Lady of Pompeii Church.
Parishioners are welcome to explore these ministries regardless of which of our three churches they normally attend. As one parish family, we are blessed by the many people who give of their time and talents to support the celebration of the Sacred Liturgy throughout our parish.
Called to Serve
Every member of the Church has gifts and talents that can be placed at the service of God and the parish community. Liturgical ministry provides one opportunity to answer that call to serve.
Whether you are interested in serving at the altar, proclaiming Sacred Scripture, or assisting with the distribution of Holy Communion, your service can become a meaningful part of your own faith journey while contributing to the worship of the entire parish.
