The Sacraments

The Sacramental Life of the Church

The Sacraments are sacred signs, instituted by Christ and entrusted to the Church, through which God’s grace is given to us.

Through the Sacraments, Christ continues to be present and active in the life of the Church. They strengthen us in faith, unite us more closely to Christ, and help us grow in holiness.

The Catholic Church celebrates seven Sacraments, which accompany us throughout our Christian lives. They are grouped into three categories according to their particular role in the life of the Church.

The Sacraments of Christian Initiation

Baptism • Confirmation • Eucharist

The Sacraments of Christian Initiation lay the foundation of the Christian life and bring us into deeper communion with Christ and His Church.

Through these sacraments, we are welcomed into the life of the Church, strengthened in our faith, and nourished for our continuing journey as disciples of Christ.

At St. Pio of Pietrelcina Parish, children and families are accompanied through the sacramental preparation process, while adults seeking to receive the Sacraments or complete their Christian initiation are welcomed through OCIA.

The Sacraments of Healing

Penance and Reconciliation • Anointing of the Sick

The Sacraments of Healing bring Christ’s mercy, forgiveness, strength, and healing to His people.

These sacraments remind us that Christ remains close to us in moments of weakness, suffering, illness, and sin, and that the Church accompanies us through these moments of our lives.

The Sacraments at the Service of Communion

Holy Orders • Matrimony

The Sacraments at the Service of Communion are directed toward the salvation of others and the building up of the Church.

Through these sacraments, the faithful are called to particular vocations of service, love, and dedication to Christ and His Church.

A Life of Grace

The Sacraments are not simply ceremonies or milestones. They are encounters with Christ and gifts of God’s grace.

The sacramental life accompanies us through the different stages and circumstances of our Christian journey. Through the Sacraments, we are strengthened to live our faith, grow in holiness, serve others, and remain united to Christ and His Church.

At St. Pio of Pietrelcina Parish, we invite our parish family to participate fully in the sacramental life of the Church and to continue growing in faith through prayer, worship, and the life of the parish community.

Our parish accompanies individuals and families as they prepare for and celebrate the Sacraments.

Sacramental preparation may take place through the parish office, Religious Education, OCIA, or other appropriate parish and Archdiocesan programs, depending on the sacrament and the circumstances of the individual.

For information about a particular sacrament, please contact the appropriate parish office or ministry as directed on the sacrament’s information page.
