Welcome to St. Pio of Pietrelcina Parish!

The Catholic Community of St. Pio of Pietrelcina Parish in East Haven was born on June 29, 2017, with the merger of three Catholic parishes in East Haven: Saint Vincent de Paul, dedicated in 1914; Our Lady of Pompeii, dedicated in 1947; and Saint Clare, dedicated in 1966. In August 2019, Saint Bernadette became part of the St. Pio of Pietrelcina Parish community. Today, St. Pio of Pietrelcina Parish continues the rich spiritual heritage of these communities as one parish family, united in faith and centered on Jesus Christ.

With more than a century of spiritual nourishment and pastoral care, St. Pio of Pietrelcina Parish is home to approximately 3,250 families. Our parish reflects the legacy of generations of faith-filled, hard-working families who, throughout the years, made countless sacrifices because of their deep faith in God and love for their churches. Today, that legacy continues as our parish family works together to serve God, one another, and the wider community.

Under the leadership of its present pastor, the Reverend Thomas J. Walsh, this Catholic faith community continues to provide pastoral care and outreach through approximately 25 ministries as an extension of its sacramental life. These ministries serve parishioners as well as the East Haven and New Haven communities at large.

St. Pio of Pietrelcina Parish works collaboratively with the East Haven and Saint Bernadette Food Pantries, participates in meal preparation for area shelters, and sponsors Midnight Run, with weekly trips to the New Haven Green and area shelters to provide food, clothing, and assistance to those in need. Through these and many other ministries, our parish seeks to put our faith into action and serve Jesus Christ in our sisters and brothers.

Our parish has taken as its patron Saint Pio of Pietrelcina, a contemporary saint who lived as a Franciscan priest of the Order of Friars Minor Capuchin. Saint Pio died in 1968 and was canonized in 2002 by Pope Saint John Paul II.

As one parish family, St. Pio of Pietrelcina Parish looks forward with faith to fulfilling its mission to meet the sacramental and spiritual needs of its members, strengthen our life together as a parish, and enhance our collaborative ministry throughout the greater East Haven community. United as One Parish, Three Churches, One Family in Christ, we seek to grow in faith and serve Jesus Christ with our sisters and brothers.
