Altar Serving at St. Pio of Pietrelcina Parish

Answering the Call to Serve

Altar serving is a beautiful opportunity for young members of our parish to grow in faith, develop a deeper connection to the Mass, and serve God and His Church. By assisting the priest and deacon during liturgical celebrations, altar servers play a vital role in ensuring that the Mass is reverent and orderly.

Who Can Become an Altar Server?

We welcome boys and girls who have received their First Holy Communion and are eager to serve at the altar. No prior experience is necessary just a willingness to learn, a respectful attitude, and a heart ready to serve.

Responsibilities of an Altar Server

Altar servers assist in several key ways, including:

  • Carrying the processional cross and candles
  • Assisting the priest with the Missal and sacred vessels
  • Preparing the altar during the Liturgy of the Eucharist
  • Ringing the bells at the Consecration
  • Supporting special liturgies such as Holy Week, Christmas, and Easter Masses

Why Become an Altar Server?

Altar serving is more than just a duty it’s a chance to:
Grow in faith by being actively involved in the Mass
Develop leadership skills through teamwork and responsibility
Be a part of a special community of young Catholics serving God
Deepen your understanding of the Mass and its sacred traditions

Training and Commitment

New altar servers undergo a short training session to become familiar with the roles and responsibilities. Commitment to Masses weekly is important, and we encourage families to support their children in fulfilling this role faithfully.
